Tauriel travelling cloak bodice start

After testing my pattern I started with the bodice of the travelling cloak. As my raw silk is very thin and light, I had to stiffen it up a bit. I ironed on an interfacing for starters.

Nach meinem Schnittmustertest habe ich nun mit dem Oberteil des Reisematels begonnen. Da meine Bourettseide ziemlich dünn ist, habe ich diese mit eine Klebeeinlage verstärkt.

As you can see the bodice is still very saggy, so I mady a base for it and added some boning. I made the base from my pattern test, by the way ;)

Wie man sieht ist das oberteil immernoch viel zu schlaff. Also habe ich Unterlage mit Stäbchen dafür gemacht. Diese habe ich übrigens aus meinem Schnittmustertest gemacht ;)

Und schon siehts viel besser aus :)

Next thing will be adding piping around the edges of the bodice and then there is the hood of course and the lining... and yesterday I bought a thiner interface for the skirtpart, so I can start on that as well :)

Als nächstes werde ich eine Biese einnähen an den Kanten des Oberteils und dann kommt natürlich auch noch die Kapuze und das Futter....und gestern habe ich eine dünnere Klebeeinlage für den Rockteil gekauft, damit ich da auch loslegen kann :)

Ich bin recht zufrieden damit und musste nicht viel am Muster ändern.

Just the hood is a bit to short to my linking. I changed the pattern and will test it again later.

Nur die Kapuze ist für meinen Geschmack etws zu kurz geraten. Ich habe das Muster angepasst und werde es später nochmals testen.

Now it's time for the bodice base with the boning and cutting my green raw silk :)
Will post again on Wednesday.

Nun ist es Zeit für den Unterbau des Oberteils mit Stäbchen für etwas Steife :)

I'm back on my Tauriel costume! In fact started with her travel cloak.

Hallo ihr lieben,
ich hoffe ihr hattet alle wunderschöne Festtage :)
Ich bin wieder zurück und habe nur mit Tauriels Reisemantel begonnen.

Like I mentioned in my last post, the fabric I bought was to dark for my linking, as it is otherwise a beautiful raw silk, I coulden bring myself to not use it...dilemma... ;) So here's what I did, I bleached it with javel in my bathtube. And luckily it worked quite well :) I don't recommend using the washing machine for that. Done that before and the result is awful! Also first test on a smal sample, so you don't ruin the whole fabric. Here's before and after....

Wie ich bereits in meinem letzten Post berichtet habe, habe ich einen wunderschönen Bourette-Seidenstoff gekauft, der mir aber leider viel zu dunkel war. Ich konnte mich aber nicht dazu bringen ihn nicht zu verwenden....;) Also habe ich den Stoff kurzerhand mit Javelwasser in meiner Badewanne gebleicht. Und glücklicherweise bin ich nun sehr zufrieden mit dem Resultat :) 
Ich empfehle das Bleichen nicht in der Waschmaschiene zu machen, das Ergebniss wird schrecklich wolkig, hab ich auch schon probiert. Auch empfehlenswert, erst mal nur ein kleines Muster zu bleichen, dann ruiniert man nicht gleich den ganzen Stoff. 
Hier also mein Vorher/Nachher....

Quite nice isn't it, I'm so happy with it :)

Bald werd ich dann mit Tauriels Reisemantel beginnen, aber ich muss erst noch mein Stoffproblem lösen. ich habe einen wunderschöne Bourettseide, nur leider ist das Grün zu dunkel..... Naja, vielleicht mach ich den Mantel einfach in dem dunklen Grün, oder ich finde einen anderen Stoff oder eine andere Lösung ;P Wir werden sehen ;)

Tauriel: corset sewing part III

So let's complete this corset ;)

So es ist Zeit das Korsett zu vollenden ;)

First I tested with the pattern if the shoulder part fits and it does.....

Zuerst nochmals mit dem Schnittmuster testen, ob  die Schulterpartie passt und sie passt....

Then cutting the shoulder parts, sewing them together and finally glueing the edges down

Dann die Schulterpartie zusachneiden und zusammennähen und schlussendlich die Nähte zusammenkleben

To fix the shoulder parts to the corset, I didn't sew at all, I just used a special glue (which can be used for leather stays somewhat flexible)

Zum fixieren der Schulterpartie am Korsett, habe ich nur einen Kraftkleber (den man für Leder gebrauchen kann und etwas flexiebel bleibt) verwendet und gar nicht genäht.

Finally on to the closure lacing: First I marked the points where I will punch the holes for the eyelets.
I used a puncher and a eyelet pliers to fix the eyelets to the corset.

Zum Schluss noch der Schnürverschluss: Ich habe zuerst die Punkte für die Löcher markiert und dann eine Lochzange verwendet und um die Ösen einzudrücken eine Ösenzahnge.

Alles zusammengesteckt und bereit fürs zusammennähen :)

As you can't iron leather, I glued down the seam allowance with this roll-on-glue,
works great and is very easy

Da man Leder nicht bügeln kann, habe ich die Nahtzugabe festgeklebt mit dem Pritt roll-on Kleber. Funktioniert super gut und ist einfach




After the leather part was done, I sewed the leater and substruction part together and also glued it down at the neckline

Nach dem die Lederschicht zusammengenäht war, habe ich Leder- und Unterbauschicht zusammengenäht und dann die Ausschnittnaht ebenfalls mit Kleber fixiert

     

And that's what it looks like after gluing the neckline :)

And now it is time to insert the boning...

For the edges of the armholes and the hem I used a fake leather edge binding

Für die Armlöcher und den Saum habe ich ein Einfassband aus Kunstleder verwendet

The corset is nearly done, only the closure and the shoulder parts to do. I'll show you the rest of the progress and of course the finished corset very soon :)

Nachdem nun das Muster auf der Front fertig ist, kannst los gehen mit dem zusammennähen des Korsetts :)

Here I'm making the substruction of my corset, what lise beneath the leather.....
All those ribbons that you can see in the lighter brown, are the tunnels for the boning (which comes later). On the second picture you can see the flexible bonings which I sewed directly to the curved seams (over the breast and the side)

Hier sieht man den Unterbau fürs Korsett, der liegt dann unter der Lederschickt...
All die hellbrauenen Bänder werden später mit Stäbchen gefüllt. Auf dem zweiten Bild habe ich die flexieblen Stäbchen, auf die gerundeten Nähte über Brust und an den Seiten, aufgenäht.

And here is my beautiful, soft leather (the real color is somewhat darker)
It's a lot softer than the one I used for the front piece.

Und das ist mein wunderschönes, weiches Leder (die Farbe ist in echt etwas dunkler)
Dieses ist viel weicher als jenes für das Vorderteil mit dem Muster drauf.

For the cutting I taped the pattern onto the leather. You can't use pins, they would leave wholes, if they would even go through ;)

Fürs Zuschneiden habe ich das Muster aufs Leder geklebt mit Klebstreiben. Man kann dafür keine Stecknadeln verwenden, diese würden Löcher hinterlassen, wenn sie denn überhaupt durchgehen ;)

Here you can see how soft the leather is, I can pin it together and yes for this you can use pins because you will sew exectly where the pins are now ;)

Hier sieht man wie weich das Leder ist. I kann es sogar mit Stecknadeln zusammenstecken. Und ja hier ist es kein Problem Nadeln zu verwenden, da man ja nacher eh genau an der Stelle näht ;)
